Transfers in football can be fun, entertaining and sometimes controversial. From your teams star man leaving for your rivals or a transfer which benefits both clubs, they can truly cause a long rollercoaster of emotions from when both the summer and January transfer windows open and eventually close.

It was transfer deadline day on the 31st of January 2011 when Spanish International and globally recognised Premier League goal scorer Fernando Torres made his controversial move from Liverpool to rivals Chelsea.

As a Liverpool fan, this was the first transfer that really hit hard having idolised the Spaniards style of play and prolific goal scoring growing up. His iconic headband and multiple historical moments against rivals such as Manchester United really set his place in the hearts of millions of Liverpool fans and gave him a legendary status as one of Anfields greatest ever number 9's.

The transfer set a new record for the most expensive British transfer in history and made him the sixth most expensive footballer of all time. It was even more bitter when it circulated that Torres had his heart set on a move to Chelsea after being linked with multiple European clubs. Looking back, I don't think it would have had as much of an impact if he was to move abroad to a team like Barcelona or AC Milan.

All in all, Fernando Torres' 50 million pound move to Chelsea is a bitter transfer that will always be remembered as controversial and one that didn't quite go to plan for the striker.
