The film sets its plot upon the idea of soulmates and the belief of love at first sight. The film follows a woman who, in different time periods, comes across a man who she believes is her true love, but she always dies in some way to save him.
It follows different versions of the main character through different periods in time as she always comes across her supposed true love. Every time she lands eyes on him, she feels like they were always meant to be together, whereas he never feels this way in any time period. The plot also feels slightly like an adult version of Lowe's previous works in Horrible Histories, as the film feels like an adult version of the kids' show, with many who grew up with the show being able to watch the film.
Whilst the small cast may on paper make the film seem boring, the film does a great way of keeping it fresh with standout performances going to Nick Frost and Alice Lowe. The two main actors play both the main heroine and her estranged and sometimes insane lover throughout all time periods.
Nick Frost continues his trend of working with Lowe, having previous collabs including Hot Fuzz and Sightseers, but it takes nothing from both of their very camp and comedic performances throughout the film in their different reincarnations of each other. Lowe's performance was slightly the opposite to Frost's, with many of her scenes involving just her. Although this may get boring with other actresses, Lowe captivates the audience and controls the camera expertly.
