10 - Godless (Netflix)

Too late to top the list but will be seen as one of 2017’s best in retrospect; Godless is feminist western painted in cloud and crimson. Set on the sweeping delta’s of New Mexico with a stacked cast, it follows Michelle Dockery’s Alice and her mysterious town of women as they attempt to fend off Jeff Daniel’s bad news outlaw Frank Griffin. The brain child of genius writer Scott Frank (Logan, Out of Sight) it filled the void between Westworld’s and offered a raw character driven alternative to the surreal, sci-fi and comic book offerings of the year. - Callum Costello

9 – Broad City (Comedy Central)

Carrying on from the flawless first 3 seasons we join Abbi and Ilana on their marijuana fuelled trails through NYC. S4 includes storylines such as Donald Trump (a curse word in this season and thus bleeped out) and the election causing Ilana to lose the ability to orgasm and a partially animated episode following our slacker pair on shrooms. This season also includes some well-crafted character development for both leads. Broad City is incomparable. It’s hilarious, filthy, inclusive and portrays true female friendship in all its glory. Yaass Queen!  - Beth Chrisp

8 - The Punisher (Netflix)

The latest of Marvel’s long line of Netflix adaptations, The Punisher follows former US Marine Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) as he uncovers a military conspiracy and violently murders all those who have – and continue – to wrong him. It is a huge departure from the previous styles of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, but maintains a strong, powerful focus on its central character. With a thrilling story, excellent music choices and starkly grisly cinematography, it is a must-watch for fans of Marvel’s Netflix Universe. Just don’t eat at the same time, as some of the scenes will upset more than your emotions…  - Georgina Howlett

7 - The Defenders (Netflix)

What a hell of a show. Eight episodes of all our favourite superheroes (and their sidekicks) thrown together, fighting to defeat an evil organisation, Marvel have truly outdone themselves this time. Beginning by switching between the four dangerous heroes: Matt Murdock, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones leading up their eventual meet through very excellently done tactics; this show was everything I wanted and more. Full of humour, sarcasm, badass moves and action-packed scenes, I couldn’t pick a better show from my 2017 watches. And to top it all off, we got the beautiful Elektra back! That in itself was a reason to watch this show this year. - Lucy Lillystone

6 - Peaky Blinders (Netflix)

If you haven’t watched this show, what are you doing instead? Stop and watch. It was the best decision I made this year. Starring the talented Cillian Murphy as the lead, Peaky Blinders follows the story of a group of gangsters in Birmingham as they constantly surprise you with the frequent plot twists. Full of action, violence and fully developed, interesting characters, this series is possibly the best thing on Netflix right now. And another bonus: there are only 6 episodes per season; possible to watch in one night! This show is all I have been talking about for the past few weeks; I cannot express how obsessed I am. And you will be too. It’s that good.- Lucy Lillystone

5 - The Crown (Netflix)

The Crown is an amazing drama based on Queen Elizabeth’s rise to the throne after her fathers death in the 1950s. The series features a fabulous ensemble cast of Claire Foy as Elizabeth, Matt Smith as Prince Phillip and Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margret. The combination of post-war politics and the scandalous Royal events that plague the early days of her reign serve as the structure of the first series. Traditionalism, Divorce and the potential abolishment of the monarchy see the Queen being tested like never before, with one drama after the other set to upset The Crown. - Sian Dickie

4 - Broadchurch (ITV)

The third and final series of Broadchurch proved to be both a dramatic crime thriller and an emotional rollercoaster earlier this year. Featuring a heartbreakingly realistic depiction of both sexual assault and its consequences, the series followed returning detectives Alec Hardy (David Tennant) and Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) as they attempted to solve the rape case of Trish Winterman (Julie Hesmondhalgh). With impressive cinematography and sound design, a brilliantly talented cast, and the same fantastic writing and building of suspense by show writer Chris Chibnall, all three series are a must-watch and undoubtedly deserve to be part of our top ten shows of 2017.- Georgina Howlett

3 - Twin Peaks (Sky Atlantic)

What year is it? It’s been 25 years since the original best show on television reared its head, and David Lynch graciously provided us with a return to the murky Washington town in 2017. Kyle McLachlan played three different characters this time, Bobby was still a heartthrob, and just like 1990, shit is wacked the fuck up. There was an entire interpretive episode in black and white with nuclear bombs, parasitoid bugs and woodsmen. A naked Japanese woman with bug eyes showed up in the woods, and BOB was an egg. Oh yeah, David Bowie turned out to be a kettle, and just like the 90’s nobody got any answers. But we didn’t care, because there is nothing like Twin Peaks, and nobody will ever surpass the intrigue and theory-crafting betwixt its terrifying and genius episodes. Wipe my brain and take me back, I wanna do it all again!- Jordan Oloman

2 - Bojack Horseman (Netflix)

There was a time when the adult-cartoon market was saturated by The Simpsons, South Park and Family Guy – but nowadays, shows like Archer and Rick and Morty are more popular than ever. Personally though, it’s Netflix’s BoJack Horseman that stands out from the crowd. The show tastefully tackles numerous social issues – such as depression and sexuality – while filling each episode with plenty of laughs. 2017 witnessed its fourth season, and it has been the show’s best to date. Combining a brighter tone than in the incredibly dark season three with the same emotional heft, BoJack and co. have continued to astonish. - Tom Cooney

1 - Stranger Things (Netflix)

After the success of the first season of Stranger Things last year, hopes were always going to be high for its return. Thankfully, the Duffer brothers managed to keep the heart of the first season whilst making some major improvements with a bigger budget. The increase in production value skyrocketed without being detrimental to the storytelling, and if anything, the bigger production allowed the writers to take the show in a much more dramatic direction with larger consequences. And as we already knew the characters, the second season allows for deeper character development. Watching my boy Steven Harrington adopt five small misfits is a joy, and the story is utterly captivating throughout. - Amy Gildert
