What sure has been a pivotal year in the TV industry, where many brand new TV shows are already being awarded leaders of their category, offered us a Golden Globes ceremony with extravagant stats. The most important being shattering new records and success, the best example is the four wins of Adolescence (2025). Most of their victories, even best limited series, have all been shadowed by the sixteen years old actor Owen Cooper winning best supporting actor, after already winning an Emmy for his performance and on his way to win a SAG award, all while being the youngest to ever complete these achievements.
Another glorious win was Jean Smart winning her third Golden Globes out of 4 nominations, all for being the lead of the modern comedy series Hacks since 2021 and which will end this year. Which is perfect timing because Seth Rogen's The Studio (2025) is preparing to spend the next few years ruling the comedy categories by winning best lead actor and television series comedy or musical. Finally, the most recent series of the nominees, and personal favourite, Plur1bus (2025) only won one prize, which obviously went to Rhea Seehorn for best actress in a drama. She even created a very sweet moment during her speech by deeply thanking Vince Gilligan in person at the ceremony.
A lot of very deserved success in my opinion but some surprises were also noted. Michelle William proved wrong to the critics despites serving a poignant performance in Dying For Sex (2025) by winning best actress in a limited series, even though she was against multiple awards actresses like Sarah Snook. Continuing in the acting categories the very first season of the HBO drama The Pitt (2025) gave Noah Wyle his first Golden Globe, continuing the series of 8 consecutive defeats of Gary Oldman for Slow Horses (2022), which he started in 2023 in all major competitions.
I think, like many people, that the prize should have gone to the brilliant Catherine O’Hara for her hilarious performance in The Studio
But quite surprisingly, and to my disappointment, the new series also won best Drama, leaving the masterpiece Plur1bus with only one win and the sci-fi series Severance (2022) without any trophy, despite being predicted to earn a lot more at the time of its release. Furthermore Stephen Graham created one of the most important TV shows of the year with Adolescence, however his win in best actor in a limited series seems a little bit unfair considering that Charlie Hunnam also produced a chilling performance in the third season of Monster (2022). Important to add that even though it didn't win best performance, it would have been beautiful to see Paul Giamati win for his performance in Black Mirror (2011) (which would've been the shows first nomination). Finally, the win of Erin Doherty, for best supporting actress in the show Adolescence, definitely was not on my bingo card. I think, like many people, that the prize should have gone to the brilliant Catherine O’Hara for her hilarious performance in The Studio.
To end this article I send a little thought for The White Lotus (2021) which despite 6 nominations didn’t win anything. But most important a solemn thought for Catherine O'Hara who tragically left us on January 30, 2026, May she rest in peace.
