Yellowjackets s3 (Paramount/Now TV):
If you’re not expecting to have plans on Valentine's Day next year, Yellowjackets are dropping the first two episodes of their highly anticipated third series. Fans of the show, which follows a high school girls soccer team who crash land in the Canadian wilderness, can expect to see the plot take an even darker turn than previous seasons, with the writers saying this season's gore level will be upped to a 9.5/10.
The show alternates between two timelines, depicting the teenagers in the wilderness, and looking at how the survivors are coping with their past 25 years on. If you’re a fan of ‘Lord of the Flies’ or of women centric shows, catch up on the first two series before February!
Stranger Things 5 (Netflix):
After nearly a decade, Netflix’s hit tv show draws to a close next year. After series 4 introduced the new villain Vecna and left series regular Max Mayfield in what appears to be a coma, fans will be watching anxiously to see which of their favourites makes it to the series’ end. The team behind the show have said the wait for the final episodes will be well worth it, with each episode rumoured to be the length of a feature film.
The show’s long breaks between series has led to many fan theories flying round, such as Eleven taking down the upside down but dying in the process and fan favourite Steve dying in order to save the rest. Whatever happens, the final series is one to look out for if you’re a sci-fi fan (or just someone who started watching nearly a decade ago in 2016 and now feels they have to see it out after so many years of commitment)!
IT: Welcome to Derry (HBO Max):
Horror fans may want to keep an eye out for the latest adaptation of Stephen King's famous ‘IT’. Following the 1986 two part miniseries and two part film series released in 2017 and 2019 respectively, 2025 will see the release of “Welcome to Derry”, a show detailing the origins of “Pennywise”. The show is being produced by Jason Fuchs, Barbara and Andy Muschetti, the latter of whom directed the 2017 and 2019 IT films.
Returning alongside Muschetti is Bill Skarsgard, who is reprising his role as Pennywise, after receiving praise for his portrayal of the iconic villain. The show will be set in the 1960s and will follow the people of Derry dealing with the beginnings of Pennywise. This show is one to watch out for if you’re already a fan of IT or if you’re someone looking to get into the world of Stephen King.
