According to a message from the website hosting provider seen by The Courier, the provider responded by blocking traffic to the site. This is “to maintain network activity”.
The site went offline at 11.30am, and came back online at 1.05pm. As such, voting has been extended to 4pm.
The NUSU website had previously been offline today from 7.30am-9.30am. Voting had subsequently been extended from 12pm to 2pm.
The Courier understands that NUSU intends to extend the voting period for any further time lost.
The attack is on the IP address rather than the website itself, meaning other sites are being affected.
The message from the website hosting provider concludes “We will continue to monitor the situation and update you when you can.”
This is a developing story, and more information will be added as it becomes available.
