Ryan Murphy’s Ratched was recently announced as Netflix’s most viewed debut season of 2020. With a total of 48 million households watching the psychological thriller in the first 28 days of its release, the American Horror Story creator was no doubt impressed with this success for his latest Gothic series.
I still think the shows that merit discussion online are worth entertaining
And yet, if you’re reading this and you’ve never even heard of Ratched, don’t worry, because a lot of people on social media are saying the same thing, despite the show’s statistical success. During your next daily browse of your Netflix homepage, you’ll probably see the series on your ‘Top Picks’ or ‘Trending Now’, and you’ll be able to register it as the show that people are currently talking about.
In my experience, shows that are the hot topics of discussion are usually the ones I’m more likely to watch- not because I’m a sheep (although that probably does play into it), but because if others are hyping it up, there must be something good about it? Don’t get me wrong, I’ve definitely started shows that people are talking about, and then sacked them off halfway through the first episode because I know they’re not for me. But I still think the shows that merit discussion online are worth entertaining and at least giving a go.
If you haven’t got round to trying Ratched yet, I encourage you to watch the first episode. If your TV tastes are anything like mine, you’ll have binged the entire first season by the end of tomorrow.
