Bucharest is the capital of Romania and one of the most beautiful cities in Eastern Europe. With a history of hundreds of years, the city used to be called "the Little Paris" or "Paris of the East", because of the French style of the buildings, some of which were actually built by French architects. Now let's see what is to be done in Bucharest in 24 hours.

With only £2 you can get a metro daily pass with which you can travel all around the city. The first things you should see are the Palace of the Parliament, declared the heaviest building in the world, and the impressive Arch of Triumph, inspired by the French model.

If you are passionate about arts and culture, head over to the Romanian Athenaeum, where you can listen to the Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra. The National Theater is ideal if you want to enjoy some amazing plays or just want to take a guided tour of the building.

Everyone who visits Bucharest should go into the Old Town. This is a historical area with restaurants, cafes and lots of perfect places for a photoshoot. While you are here, you may want to try some Romanian dishes at Caru' cu bere (The beer wagon) restaurant. My recommendation is sarmale with polenta, and papanasi for dessert. I promise you will not be disappointed.

If you want to enjoy the outdoors, Bucharest has many options. You can wander in one of the 45 parks, discover Romanian traditions at the Village Museum or admire 135 different types of roses at the Botanical Garden.

At the end of the day, make sure you go watch the fountains show, Water Symphony, in the city center. This is a water spectacle of colours and music held every weekend night between May and October.
