As summer approaches, a set of new releases and high-profile returns are poised to stake their claim for the coveted title of Song of the Summer.

Wet Leg
It’s been nearly four years since Wet Leg’s 'Chaise Longue' became the indie hit of summer 2022. Now the band are back with their sophomore record moisturiser releasing 11 July. April Fool’s Day saw the arrival of ‘catch these fists’, a riff heavy song with the classic tongue-and-cheek lyrics typical of Wet Leg. With hints of other songs from the upcoming record being teased in warm up shows, the band are following a familiar formula of their debut with cryptic humour, and festival-ready anthems. If their debut was any indication, it’s inevitable Wet Leg will release another lo-fi indie smash this summer.

Loyle Carner
Based off the recent singles released from his upcoming album hopefully !. Loyle Carner seems to be shifting from the sounds of his 2022 record hugo.. You can really sense the intuitive dynamic him and his band have, with blends of driving guitar lines and subtle piano that softens the space between his introspective verses. It’s a sound that sits within spoken word, alt rock and jazz – a reflection of his ever-expanding musical palette. Carner’s warm delivery and laid-back production are perfect for summer parties and hazy road trips.

Pulp
Twelve years since their last material, Pulp have dropped lead single ‘Spike Island’ a track fuelled by its jangly guitars and euphoric chorus that both nods to their past work and hints at something thrillingly new. With the band confirming their forthcoming record More, the stage is set for the revival of Britpop. Jarvis Cocker’s social commentary is as sharp as ever and with plenty more singles to be released, Pulp may well be the band that gets all generations uniting this summer.

Wolf Alice
A few modern bands can flip between tenderness and intensity as seamlessly as Wolf Alice, and 2025 marks a long-awaited return with their new single ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’, releasing 15 May. The teasers reveals shimmering guitars and a driving bassline, all layered beneath Ellie Rowsell’s distinctive vocals. There’s a vibrant energy that recalls the band’s earlier work, but it’s delivered with a newfound clarity that speaks to their evolution hinting that maybe this release will take the title.
