Have second and third years lost their passion for clubbing?

Do second and third years prefer nights-in over clubbing?

If you are a Newcastle or a Northumbria student you will probably remember your first time out clubbing in the iconic city that we all home for the next three years. Whether you are a full-fledged Tropiloco go-er or you prefer a Soho Wednesday, nothing beats being a first year without a care in the world for that 9 am, except what kind of takeaway to get at the end of the night - which often ends up being Bigg Market Chippy or Toon Takeaway. But what happens to the second and third years who end up feeling like the oldest person in the world when there surrounded by freshers in the club?

There is no doubt that there is a drop in the attendance of second and thirds years when it comes to clubbing...

There is no doubt that there is a drop in the attendance of second and thirds years when it comes to clubbing, we actually should be going to our 9 am lectures (well in theory), but I suppose it is a rite of passage that when you step into the years of university that actually count you seek alternative options to clubbing four times a week. But could you really expect the students of Newcastle to go sober full time, yeah probably not, but that’s when the golden P word comes in – the pub. I guess what makes the pub so attractive to second and thirds years is that sense of maturity (and two-pound pints of course), plus it’s far easier to talk about how much you are hating second and third year in a pub than in a club.

I could not write about second and third year pubs and clubs without mentioning the holy grail of pubs/clubs, the beloved Holy Hobo. This place is a sanctuary for those transitioning into second or third year, but we have to be fair about one thing though - what are those queues, don’t get me wrong I know the British love to queue but that queue is a little bit crazy. A word to the wise though if you are seeking a Holy Hobo visit anytime soon you probably should either: A. get a queue pass, or B. get there five minuets early, or C. potentially rethink your life choices...
