Don’t get me wrong, nights out clubbing, going out for meals and meeting for coffee are all great and things I absolutely love to do with my friends, but those activities can get costly, both financially and mentally. When balancing university work, living independently, part time work, relationships, own personal development and investing in your own hobbies, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and sometimes disconnected to those you are closest to, due to time and financial pressures.
One of the easiest activities for a girl’s night in, and one of my personal favourites is movie night.
Which is why a girls’ night in every once in a while offers a low commitment, yet non-negotiable hang out where you can all, reset, reconnect, and catch up. One of the easiest activities for a girl’s night in, and one of my personal favourites is movie night.
Makeup off, PJs on, takeaway ordered.
Whether it be the same film or TV series you’ve seen a million times before, Pretty Little Liars for me, or something new which nobody has seen before, you're guaranteed to find something that will suit everyone's tastes. With the return of classic autumnal British TV, perhaps your choosing may be something like The Traitors, Gogglebox, or The Great British Bake Off. Movie night is a great way to switch off, and reset together, with the most perfect cozy vibes.
Don’t want to splash out on a takeaway? A 'bring a board' night offers an exciting twist on the British staple that is picky bits for tea. Each person brings a themed tray or board, whether it be a snack board, a dessert board or a starter board, for example, which everyone can tuck into together. Combine this idea with the movie night to create the ultimate girl’s night in or use the 'bring a board' night idea as the basis of the night itself.
You could assemble them together as the activity, or each bring them ready made to tuck straight into over a catchup of each other’s week and updating each other on what is happening in each other’s lives, in real time.
A girls’ night in is my idea of friendship maintenance, an absolute essential that every friendship should make a ritual.
A girls’ night in is my idea of friendship maintenance, an absolute essential that every friendship should make a ritual. No matter what you chose to do, it removes all the pressure which can be attached with social events, and they can involve whatever activity you feel fits best.
No matter how you chose to spend your girl’s night, it is a great reminder to slow down, relax and take in some quality time with those close to you.
