Cosy Joe's...
The well-worn tables and the no-nonsense bar menu with cheap drinks and friendly servers just makes you feel right at ease. The rugged appeal may be lost on some, but I personally like a place that is a little rough around the edges.
It reminds me of companionship and having fun nights out with your friends, dancing to songs and trying to make some room on the small dancefloor. It’s a testament that while we all love fancy bars and techno clubs, we always come back to the familiar pub with karaoke and classic dance music that makes you feel at home.
I always know I will end up singing to the crowd until I'm hoarse...
The best part is, that I don’t have to worry about being drunk here because everyone is just so nice and supportive! Extra points for the fact that one can (legally) scream off-key lyrics into the microphone and people sing along with you. Makes you feel like you're Madonna!
Turns out, you don't need pretension or fancy outfits to have a good night out, just a couple of pints and a few songs cued up on karaoke! Cosy Joe’s is the pillar of Newcastle’s pub culture, and rightfully so. It's a classic and it’s never going out of style. Another added bonus of going there is the shawarma place down the street, which is the perfect post-night out drunk meal you might find in the entire city.
So while I do enjoy a night of clubbing or going for a fancy dinner, I always know I will end up singing to the crowd until I’m hoarse and making new friends at Cosy Joe’s. It’s comfortable, cosy, and the perfect example of North-East’s signature sweetness, as every person you meet there is a gem.
With love and many, many ABBA songs,
