With Mid- Module assignments approaching stress levels may have started to rise. Are you gently trudging through the word count? Frantically trying to meet the deadline? Or have you already finished and feeling ready to unwind? Whatever stage you’re at here is a mini playlist to get you through…

‘Harsh Realm’- Widowspeak- This Dream-pop/ Shoegaze track is perfect for romanticising your trip to the library. The heavy backing and dreamy vocals offer a satisfying and moody contrast from one another. The lyrics are hauntingly repetitive and simple which allows for limited distraction whilst studying. This track is far from boring though, with the drums, bass and guitar being able to hold their own from start to finish. It was also apparently featured in American Horror Story, so if that won’t convince you that this song creates an atmosphere then I don’t know what will.

‘Impurities’- Arlo Parks- This is a lovely song about the self-love that can blossom through community and acceptance. The line “I’ll radiate like a star” throughout is a nice affirmation and adds some relaxing positivity to any study session. This new single is more experimental and electronic than some of her earlier stuff, but still has the poetic imagery that she has become known for within the layers of effects and percussion. Her new album My Soft Machine is out 28th May and I’m excited to hear what direction the rest of the album goes in.

‘Starstruck’- Sorry- This should come with a warning because it will get stuck in your head. The layering of the two voices, the tempo changes and industrial noises create an eclectic sound. This song is quicker than the previous ones but works well as a backing for that spontaneous caffeine run.

Gone in a Blink’-Niches-This song will have you speeding through your to-do list in no time with its powerful vocals and punchy chorus. The changes in pace and distorted riffs make an already addictive song even more interesting. Niches are a band to look out for- let’s see what they do next!

‘Witches’-Alice Phoebe Lou- ‘Witches’ might have to be saved until after submissions because Alice’s captivating voice and whimsically warm vibe are just too groovy. The magical electronic sounds make this song impossible not to dance to and make me look forward to sunnier weather. Now is the perfect time to discover her music as she has a new album out soon and her tour dates have already been released.
