Her independent work, separate from her incredible band Big Thief, is inspired by the works of Leanord Cohen and Elliot Smith, harnessing their abilities to tell complex stories through the art of music. If you’re interested in indie folk music, Lenker’s lyrics will blow you away.
While her earlier albums encompass the indie rawness of a growing artist, her album Songs is by far the most lyrically impressive, containing songs about grief, love, childhood, and motherhood. Her music is perfect for studying, feeling a little sad, or even falling in love.
Her songs have recently surfaced on TikTok, with her single Vampire Empire being deeply loved by the community. Her songwriting is becoming more prominently appreciated. I am deeply anticipating her new album, Bright Future, and with the three single’s Fool, Ruined, and Sadness as a Gift, recreating the same magic she is so known for; I am adamant it will be a masterpiece. Sadness as a Gift is a personal favourite, expressing the deep agony but joy in losing something beautiful, that love is eternal.
Lenker’s political advocacy for the current Gaza ceasefire has been deeply inspirational, and it is extremely important for artists to utilize their platform and educate their listeners. She has currently released an EP exclusively on Bandcamp, in which all purchases are send directly to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, currently having raised $74,837.
Her music is available on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and all proceeds from Adrianne’s Bandcamp will help provide medical relief to the children of Palestine.
