After one hour and 40 minutes and a 6-3, 7-5 set games Rune was held away from the title as the 9th ranked looked flawless all week, winning back to back with ease it and what seems to be the best form of his career so far.
The 22 year old had to defeat Huesler 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, Kecmanovic 6-1, 6-0, Bublik 6-2, 6-3, Alcaraz 6-3, 6-2 before reaching the final. Highlighting his impressive win over the No1 seed in the world Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals.
In his post-match interview Auger-Aliassime said “ it’s been an amazing week, it’s been a long year, a long stretch of wins and it’s not over. Hopefully I can keep going, but right now I’m feeling all the good emotions that come with winning a tournament. It’s amazing.”
Auger-Aliassime’s high powered forehand and serving were his main weapons in the first set while did not face a break point and comfortably won the set. Coming into the second set, things started to get a bit shacky while Rune trusted is backhand and claimed a break point, but that was not enough to deny the title from the Canadian that finished the game with 11 aces and winning 36/46 of the points behind his first serve.
The Swiss Triumph is the 3rd title of October for Felix after being named champion in the Firenze and Antwerp open earlier that month, his 13th straight tour level win which is his personal best winning streak and confirmed his place in the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time ever.
His latest win made him the third player to win an ATP Tour title without dropping a service game in 2022 after Taylor Fritz and Nick Kyrgios.
Next up for the young star is Paris Masters where he has a bye in first round and will be thrown in the battle in Round two, facing either Ymer or Bublik and has all the potential of winning another important title in 2022.
