Rory McIlroy has made history this week, claiming victory at the master’s tournament for the second year in a row. Delivering a remarkable performance at Augusta National Golf club.

The Irishman maintained his focus despite the intensity of the final round, where he finished one shot ahead of his rival.

Having claimed his first green jacket in 2025, McIlroy returned to Augusta this year determined to defend his title. Throughout the weekend tournament his consistency, and resilience kept him at the top of the leader board. On his 72nd hole he took a two-shot lead setting him up for a narrow win via his two-putt bogey.

On the final round, McIlroy began tied with Cameron Young at 11-under, but a double bogey at the fourth, and sixth added the pressure. Round 7, 8, 12th and 13th he fought with birdies, which is where he ultimately regained control. Despite the bogey on the 18th, his closing 71 at 12 under gave him what he needed to claim victory.

Other players kept competition up throughout the day, with Young briefly leading early on, however the bogeys on the front nine dropped him back, and he finished tied third. Justin Rose also made a quick start with several birdies, but he lost momentum. Whilst Tyrrell Hatton and Russell Henley finished tied third on 10-under. And, finally Scottie Scheffler’s strong, but not strong enough 68 earned him second place on 11-under.

McIlroy’s joy was clear as he stated after his victory, ‘’I just can’t believe I waited 17 years to get one Green Jacket and now I get two in a row.’’ Scottie Scheffler placed after McIlroy and he went on to praise the achievement – ‘’you don’t win the amount of tournaments that he’s won out here without being pretty resilient.’’

McIlroy’s back-to-back Masters Victory will be remembered as a pivotal moment in his career, once again proving his determination, and composure on one of golf’s biggest stages. For McIlroy this was more than just another win – it was a moment of history. Will McIlroy make it three in a row?
