Centred around school and family, Nativity is crammed with childhood nostalgia
Mr Madden, a primary school teacher, who embodies a Grinch type of loathing for Christmas, is set with the task of directing the school’s annual Nativity play – much to his dismay. However, this year he has a helper, who brings a lot of bizarre ideas to the table. New teacher, Mr Poppy, certainly gives Will Ferrell’s Buddy from Elf a run for his money when it comes to spreading Christmas cheer. It’s safe to say that opposites did not attract at first with Mr Madden and Mr Poppy, but from bickering to best friends, it truly is a feel-good film. Centred around school and family, Nativity is crammed with childhood nostalgia – an essential ingredient for any Christmas film. In terms of the nostalgia scale, I may be biased having grown up in England, but I believe that it’s a film perfect for the whole family.
Last but not least, if musicals float your boat, I would argue that Nativity is not too far off the musical genre – it is filled with original, absolute bangers that are guaranteed to be stuck in your head. If you find yourself slipping into a Scrooge-like state of mind this winter, then Nativity is the film to lift your Christmas spirit!
