Whether you’re travelling by car, ferry, or plane, these are the areas you should consider visiting this year. The BBC recently released its top 25 places to travel to in 2025, and what a range there is!

From destinations right here in the North of England, all the way to the other side of the globe – Bradford to Western Australia - there is a holiday suited for everyone on this list.

What stood out for me was the sheer focus on encouraging tourism in regions that are in economic decline right now and would greatly benefit from visitors. The BBC has shifted away from the typical tourist locations that have often suffered from over-tourism. This can create lasting problems, such as worsened pollution, as well as disrupting wildlife and habitats.

It is vital to recognise the beauty, whether it be natural or man-made, of places in the world that are often not considered as popular holiday destinations. This not only gives busier locations lots more space to breathe but also provides a chance for overlooked areas to grow through tourism.

I am sure we all agree that Bradford is not a place that first comes to mind when thinking of holiday destinations. However, the BBC has given a new perspective, providing an insight into the culture-driven side of the region. The article highlights the re-opening of the National Science and Media Museum and a wide range of celebrations surrounding the arts. If you want a holiday right here in the UK, and your interests lie in the depths of artistry and history, this is the perfect place to visit.

In South America, the BBC has pointed readers towards Bolivia. The article directs our focus to the natural wonder of the Uyuni Salt Flat. It is a must-see for all nature enthusiasts out there.

...destinations this year point towards regions that are refined with diversity, culture, and natural beauty

Areas across the Asian continent are heavily featured throughout the list, such as Sir Lanka, Noashima Japan, Hoa Valley Bhutan, and Pakistan's Gilgi-Baltistan region. Before reading this fascinating write-up, I would never have even considered these areas for all of the enriched cultures and natural phenomena they have to offer.

The Emerald Coast of Nicaragua is also one that stood out for me a lot, just for the title itself.  The region’s spectacle of shimmering green lakes and sky-craping mountains sounds like a for-sure sight to behold.

There are lots more areas on BBC's list, but these are a few that caught my eye.

All in all, my predictions for adventurers and holiday-goer’s destinations this year point towards regions that are refined with diversity, culture, and natural beauty.

Be sure to take a risk this year and experience something you never thought you would!
