Cake Stories
Cake Stories is the go-to for my friends and I when it comes to having a catch up with a sweet treat. Located in West Jesmond, this cosy, independent café has a range of delicious desserts. Craving a Rose, Almond and Pistachio cake or a Salted Caramel S’mores brownie? Keep your eyes peeled for their limited edition treats during certain times of the year, such as the Cherry Bomb cake that was this year's Valentine’s Day special.
Arlo
Also in West Jesmond, we have Arlo’s. Although this restaurant isn’t necessarily the first place that comes to mind when thinking of desserts, their cake selection is impossible to choose from – from their Traditional Red Velvet, to Biscoff (as well as Vegan Biscoff!), to a White chocolate, baileys, and espresso cheesecake!
Northern Rye
Located by the River Tyne in Ouseburn, this independent business offers some exciting viennoiseries. Northern Rye keeps themselves creative with their Baileys Cream Cruffins and their Rhubarb and Custard Cups! It is definitely worth taking a trip down to the Riverside to pop in.
The Dispensary
If you’re looking for something more than a small bite to satisfy your sweet tooth, The Dispensary Coffee House is the perfect lunch spot. Located next to St. James, they are famous for their American style pancakes. Whether you are in the mood for a stack of Bueno pancakes or Lotus Biscoff French Toast, The Dispensary has you covered. Look out for their surprise specials on Pancake Day!
Batch
This bakery in Jesmond has an abundance of sweet treats waiting for you. I would like to specifically shout out their impressive croissant selection, from Mango, Passionfruit and Raspberry croissants to Mars Bar croissants. If you’ve skipped breakfast, do not fear – Batch has your back.
Pink Lane Bakery
Pink Lane is another sweet treat staple that has a variety of tasty pastries and treats – Cinnamon buns, Pain au raisins, egg custard tarts, and more! Located in the city centre as well as Jesmond, this independent, artisan bakery has everything you need.
Wetherspoons
It would be morally wrong for me to write this article and not give an honourable mention to Spoons’ cookie dough. Their gooey cookie dough sandwich with vanilla ice cream is a cult classic for a a very good reason.
