Boba Fett has been infamous amongst Star Wars fans since starring in the original trilogy, despite his lack of screen time and almost non-existent dialogue across The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983) . There’s something to be said about his Mandalorian armour, with enough gadgets to rival Batman. It’s a shame about the sarlacc pit, though.
The Book of Boba Fett, initially teased in a surprise – and much appreciated! – end-credit scene at the end of Season 2 of The Mandalorian, finds Boba Fett and fellow bounty hunter Fennec Shand navigating the dangerous underworld of Tatooine. Fett intends to take control of this territory, once ruled by the feared crime syndicate of Jabba the Hutt. A job easier said than done!
With leading cast members Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen, we can expect quite the Star Wars adventure.
There are so many highlights from the official trailer that it would be impossible to name them all. My favourite must be, however, the call-back to Luke Skywalker’s (Mark Hamill) own transmission to Jabba the Hutt. Boba Fett wants a ‘mutually beneficial’ agreement during his rule on Tatooine, and there’s definitely some irony there. Hopefully, Boba rules without too many disintegrations!
As he professes ‘I’m not a bounty hunter’ despite being the most famous of them all, we can expect quite the jump from Jabba’s rule, and a whole new world of crime to flourish on Tatooine.
Fans seem pleased about the exploration of a much grittier world outside of the ‘high and mighty’ antics of the Jedi. I must say, I agree.
It’s a breath of fresh air to see a world that looks lived in! The Trailer does an amazing job of world-building, where we see quick glimpses into the lively (and, notably crime-ridden) culture of Tatooine.
Not only can we look forward to The Book of Boba Fett, more spin-offs are on their way! Andor (2022-), Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022-), Lando and The Acolyte to name a few. Tune into Disney+ on December 29th, and see Boba Fett in action.
