Britain’s favourite bear returns in a daring adventure across the Amazonian forest as he sets off in search of his aunt Lucy and returns with more than he can bargain for. Paddington and his British family travel across the world to Peru on a mission to reunite the young bear with his aunt, running into the mysterious Hunter Cabot and his daughter Gina.
Despite deserving less praise than the stellar Paddington 2, the film still remains a moving and heart-warming story of family, identity discovery and the importance of belonging. Home is wherever family is, not where you were born. Paddington in Peru is an incredible family film that is sure to make everyone of all ages chuckle. Whilst remaining wholesome and kid friendly, it is packed full of ironic and comedic scenes that bring comfort despite the tears that spring to your eyes when Paddington expresses that his home is with the Brown family.
the third edition to the Paddington trilogy is tremendously charming
Olivia Colman brings a musical aspect to the Home for Retired Bears with her ensemble guitar piece composed on Paddington’s declaration that he will return to Peru. Other than the unsubtle and jarring replacement of Mrs Brown’s actor, it makes a decent foray into action scenes and contains a bonus scene of Hugh Grant.
Although disappointing to die-hard Paddington fans, this film is an amazing watch and surely helps to alleviate the winter blues that have begun to creep in. The change in creative ownership has a clear impact on the film, with fans criticising the lack of wit and smarts that was so ingrained in the first two films. Despite these criticisms, the film boasts an astonishing cast, with a standout performance from Olivia Colman and the third edition to the Paddington trilogy is tremendously charming.
