NUTV is NUSU’s high-action and fast paced television branch. Founded in 2007, the youngest of the three branches has certainly taken leaps and bounds in progress, committing itself to producing both on-demand and live broadcasts throughout the academic year. NUTV aims to be a platform to allow as many students as possible, regardless of their academic or personal background, the chance to experience the world of TV production.
We produce content covering current affairs, entertainment, music, student talent and lifestyle, sports, and more! Have an idea for a brand new show? Come and make that show a reality, as we’re always looking for new show concepts!
NUTV’s flagship shows have included Bigg Market Banter, where we send out hosts to investigate the antics students get up to on nights out; Student Sessions, showcasing music talent from both the local student body and more established bands; a selection of entertainment videos where we sit down students in front of a camera and task them a variety of challenges; and current affair videos, bringing the news across campus to you!
We also provide a service in covering student activities, from society events to sporting fixtures, Students’ Council and Student Elections, and the variety of campaigns.
NUTV aims to help bridge connections into the industry for anyone pursuing a media career
Last year NUTV received a grant, which allowed us to invest in some brand new kit to improve and streamline our live broadcast capability, making easier than it has ever been to present, produce, direct or film live television at Newcastle University.
We will also be working closer with the University in helping to provide content to the wider student body, so content you have developed, filmed or even presented could be making the rounds across campus!
NUTV also aims to help bridge connections into the industry for anyone looking to pursue a media career. We are a NaSTA affiliated station, allowing us access to the workshops and industry trips the Association runs throughout the year, including the annual conference in Easter and the highly sought NaSTA Awards! Some of our NUTV team have even worked with NaSTA as executive officers and trustees! We also have local connections with the Royal Television Society and professional individuals from local and national TV broadcasting studios.
