Self-isolation can be tough. Time will be in an abundance for all of us trapped inside, and it’ll be hard to kill that time. A sure way to pass that time will be to watch movies, a lot of movies. So rather than training for a marathon, not like we can go outside anyway, why not try a movie marathon instead to waste away the hours in the best way possible?

Seen as though we are all stuck inside for an unholy amount of time you might as well try one of the most iconic movie marathons, ever. Coming in at a staggering 11 hours and 31 minutes, watching all three 'Lord of the Ring' films is no small feat but definitely a great way to kill some time. The movies get better and better each time with epic battles and set pieces. And if you don’t believe me maybe the 11 Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (2003) might change your mind. Its widely regarded as one of the best trilogies of all time so if you haven’t seen them you owe it to yourself to do so, what else have you got to do? And if you are truly made of sterner stuff try watching all 3 Hobbit movies as well which while admittingly aren’t as good, will bolster your watch time up to 20 hours and 39 minutes, so try at your own peril as by the end you might be spouting random elvish.

If you haven’t heard of the Marvel Cinematic Universe you must have been way ahead of the curve when it comes to self-isolating. Starting in 2008 with Iron Man and the most recent being 2019's Spider-man: Far from Home, the MCU now has 23 films to its name making it a great pick for a marathon. 23 films may seem like a daunting task because it is, watching all of them back to back would take you over 2 days so make sure you have some snacks. But in the end, it’ll be worth it seeing all your favourite characters develop from movie to movie, witness some teary deaths, epic fights and bucket loads of humor. And with the recent release of Disney Plus in the UK its never been easier to do this as the majority of the MCU is on the streaming service, including Avengers: Endgame (2019).

When it comes to movie marathons, Disney is our best friend. One of the most iconic franchises out there, 'Star Wars' is loved by countless and with the Skywalker saga just ending there is no better time to prop your feet up and go back to the beginning. Including the spin-off movies Rogue One and Solo, there are 11 movies from a galaxy far far away for you to get stuck into. Over the course of a mere 22 hours and 30 minutes, you’ll get so follow the story of some of biggest names in cinema through some of the best movies Hollywood has to offer. And sadly, some not so good ones, but at least there are a bunch of laser swords!

You can’t be in British lockdown without watching at least one Harry Potter movie, so why not watch all of them? The 8-movie series is ingrained into modern media which should come as no surprise with how great the movies are. The set pieces, monsters and of course magical spells launch you into the world of Hogwarts which certainly isn’t a bad thing given our current scenario. Just going back and watching the first movie is a massive blast from the past, seeing all our characters so young and then watching them grow up warms the heart. Apart from when those characters you love die, but let’s not talk about it. So rather than worrying over coronavirus all day, why not spend a day, or just under 20 hours, watching the Magical World of Witchcraft and Wizardry?
