Formed by John Power in 1992 following the collapse of his previous band the La’s, famous for their hit single ‘There She Goes’, Cast were one of the most prominent bands of the Britpop movement in the 1990s, with Noel Gallagher once describing their live shows as a “religious experience”.
The band released their seventh studio album ‘Love is the Call’ in February 2024, which saw them get back into the UK top 30 charts for the first time since 1999.
Support came from fellow Liverpudlian band Woo who played a short set, winning over the crowd and getting them well and truly warmed up for the main event.
Cast opened their set with their 1996 hit ‘Sandstorm’ and from the very first chord Power struck from his guitar it seemed as though he had the crowd in the palms of his hands.
The set contained a mixture of new songs and classics, and while at most concerts crowds only want to hear a band or artist play their greatest hits, with Cast the crowd were cheering just as loudly for songs released only this year as they were for songs released in the 90s at the height of their fame.
“There’s a lot of rumours about next summer isn’t there” frontman John Power said to the crowd alluding to reports in recent weeks that Cast and former Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft have been chosen to be the support for Oasis’s reunion tour next summer. Having only just finished touring with Liam Gallagher on his recent ‘Definitely Maybe’ 30th anniversary tour and having supported Oasis in the past, including at their legendary Knebworth shows, it is has since been officially confirmed that we will be seeing Cast once again on the road with Oasis next summer.
For a band who next year will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the release of their debut album, Cast show no signs of slowing down, and with their dedicated fan base and desire to still make new and exciting music who can blame them.
