After the Women's Champions League broke the attendance record for a women's match, Karim Benzema almost managed the Peter Crouch hat-trick!

Why is it even called the Peter Crouch hat-trick? Peter Crouch was never able to score three headers consecutively to gain a hat-trick! Those who have succeeded don't hold the names of Messi or Ronaldo but of Duncan Ferguson (Everton, 1997) and Salomon Rondon (West Brom, 2016), amongst another three.

More on the Champions League though! Tuesday evening saw Benfica being dominated by Liverpool as Klopp's side take another win.

Konate scored, with a header from a corner, within the 17th minute for Liverpool, putting them up 0-1. Liverpool lead for the rest of the match as Mane put the ball in the back of the net to make it 2-0 although Nunez grabbed a goal for Benfica, who came back straight after half-time.

The final goal was from Diaz, in the 87th minute, who took on four players in the run for the goal as he took to the left of former-Belgian, now Serbian, keeper Svilar.

Benfica lost 1-3 to Liverpool whilst Man City played Atletico Madrid to win 1-0.

Man City dominated the match with 68% possession and 90% passing accuracy. These stats do not surprise anyone as Man City had 15 shots, with two on target and one save, whilst Atletico had no chances. Atletico Madrid were the first team in champions league history to not register a shot in a knock out game.

The only goal was scored by Belgian Kevin de Bruyne in the 70th minute. The assist from Foden led to de Bruyne placing the ball into the bottom left corner with his right foot.

Wednesday night saw Villarreal take on Bayern Munich, where Danjuma's early goal saw Villarreal take the win! Parejo took a shot which came from the assist of Lo Celso; however, it was Danjuma who had the last touch of the ball to take it away from Bayern's keeper, Neuer.

Following this match was favourites Chelsea against Real Madrid. Real quickly put Chelsea's hopes to a stop with a 3-1 victory. Benzema put all three of Real's goals away, with two of those being headers! (Hence why he almost managed the Peter Crouch hat trick.)

Both of these headers were seen in a three minute succession, putting a lot of strain on to Chelsea's defence. Havertz came back before half-time to see a Chelsea goal, due to a fantastic cross form Jorginho.

Just as Chelsea looked to get back into the game Real Madrid put a long ball over the top that should have easily been dealt with. Although Eduard Mendy made a mess of his pass gifting the ball straight to Benzema to complete his hat-trick.

Real Madrid impressively held off Chelsea efforts to get a goal back with an efficient performance.

The second leg to the quarter-finals starts with Bayern hosting Villarreal and Real hosting Chelsea on Tuesday 12th April, at 8pm.

As it stands, with the quality of play so far, even whilst being 0-1 down on aggregate, Bayern will come back with mighty force to see them play in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, favourites Chelsea will no longer be favourites with a 3-1 aggregate - especially as they will be away for their upcoming match.

Then Wednesday night sees Liverpool host Benfica. It will take all of Benfica's might to come back from 3-1; considering they will be playing at Anfield there will be a low possibility that they will further in the competition.

Finally, Man City will travel to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium to play Atletico; therefore, they will need to hold their fort without parking the bus! This match could go either way as there is only one goal in the goal difference, so Man City will have to take the best of the best.
