The current 2022/23 season is Chelsea’s worst for current placement since the 1995/96 season where they placed 11th under manager Glenn Hoddle. Chelsea drew 2-2 in their fourth last game with Nottingham Forrest at home on the 13th of May. With seven points separating them from Brentford who are in 10th place currently, and only three games to go, it seems unlikely that they will be at least able to get the 10th place spot like they did in the 2015/16 season under manager Guus Hiddink. Chelsea will face three out of the four teams at the top of the table for their last games of the season.
Firstly, Chelsea will play Manchester City on the 21st of April, who they previously lost 1-0 to. Manchester City has everything to play for, and are currently sitting in first place, only one point ahead of Arsenal, but one game behind. Next, they will play Manchester United on the 25th of May, who they previously drew 1-1 with, and finally, they will play Newcastle on the 28th of May, who they previously lost 1-0 to. Manchester United and Newcastle are competing for third place, and are currently tying in points with 66 gained from 35 games, although Newcastle are currently ahead on goal difference.
It seems likely that the last three games will be losses for Chelsea, as they have been unable to maintain a win streak all season. If they lose their last three games, they may even finish as low as 12th place, if Crystal Palace manages to win at least one of their two final games.
