With a little over three months until July, Pride month, preparations for celebrations have begun. This year on 19th-20th July, Northern Pride presents Newcastle Pride, themed 'Unapologetically Visible,' with headliners Pixie Lott, DJ Gok Wan, and Michael Marouli.

After the successful expansion of Pride events in 2024 from Town Moor to the city centre, this year will follow suit. The main stage will once again be in the Pride Arena in Times Square, with Early Bird tickets on sale now starting at £7.50.

On Saturday, expect performances from Queerdo, Newcastle Mela, Northern Proud Voices, and many more. On Sunday, performers include: That Freddie Queen, Totally Taylor, Taste of Sabrina, and more. The Dance & Cabaret stage will also return, hosted by Miss Roy, PlastiQ, and Paris Munro, whereas the Arena space will include an additional 50 metres of bar space and local food vendors.

Returning performer Michael Oglive, founder of The Future is Queer, believes that these opportunities to perform at Pride allow artists to be “totally free and show who they want to be…without limitations and in front of a really safe space with a really engaged crowd.”

The production hopes to showcase local talent and is encouraging Northern natives to apply to take part, whether that be through performance, educational workshops, or otherwise interactive experiences.

Several other performances and activities will take place throughout other popular areas, such as the Market Village at Grey’s Monument and the Platform Stage on Grainger Street.

Two theatres, the Theatre Royal and Alphabetti, will join this year’s festivities and host the Family and Youth Zone and the new Trans+ Zone this year. This new zone has been developed to provide activities, support, and art, specifically catered to the trans community. Prior to Pride month, the city will host ‘Pride Fringe’ in June, including more performances throughout the city.

Additional noteworthy events include the march and candlelit vigil. The former will take place on Saturday 19th July at 12pm, starting and finishing at the Newcastle Civic Center, while the latter will follow the final act on Sunday 20th July from 9pm at the Pride Arena. This event will be accessible to all, regardless of whether they have a ticket. These times are still subject to change and more specific details, including the full route, are set to be released closer to the date.
