The annual ice trail event in York is taking place this weekend, featuring 33 ice sculptures such as the mystical Wonka world, unicorn, and Kraken, set to line York’s historic streets. The most intriguing one is “the slithering serpent,” serving as an “ice luge” for cooling soft drinks. Following these ice sculptures, people can embark on an in-depth exploration.

This is the UK’s largest outdoor Ice Trail, created by the leading ice sculpture specialists in the UK and Europe, known as "Icebox." These creative artworks allow people to get close, touch them, and have lots of fun enjoying the art while taking great pictures. As the ice sculptures are located at attractions such as York Minster, York Castle, and Museum Gardens, the background of the pictures is truly amazing. Additionally, the ice sculptures can act as distorting mirrors, creating even more fun.

The most creative piece is the “slithering serpent,” which combines the functionality of an “ice luge.” This ice sculpture is provided by Potions Cauldron, offering colorful and magical soft drinks with twinkling ice cubes beside the sculpture. This transforms the place into an ice bar suitable for all generations. Professional staff pour soft drinks into the ice, and customers accept the drink at the base of the ice. This unique experience not only allows people to enjoy the coldest and coolest drinks but also creates a magical atmosphere.

After exploring the ice sculptures, visitors can enjoy a great city walk, not only taking in the historic street views spanning generations and the riverside but also discovering local markets and renowned restaurants. Lu, 32, from Newcastle, mentioned she had been to York twice but never visited the court until this time, marveling at its beautiful architecture.

When discussing afternoon teas, one must include “Bettys.” The Times has named this restaurant one of the best for afternoon teas in the UK. Besides bakery items, they also offer main dishes such as the classic English breakfast, Chicken Schnitzel, and Yorkshire Rarebit. The restaurant is spacious enough to ensure the queue doesn't take too long. While waiting, people can enjoy the ice sculptures on the side.

The event runs from 10:00 GMT until 16:00 GMT on Saturday and Sunday. Afterward, York Art Gallery will host the light show event “Colour & Light” from 7th to 25th February 2024. "Colour & Light" is a high-impact and large-scale visual arts project using 3D projection mapping to bring York’s iconic buildings to life
