With International Women's Day coming up, we are exploring some female-owned eateries around the North-East. There are many very good restaurants created by incredible women. Here is a snippet of some of them:

Veganatomy:

Veganatomy is Asian fusion cuisine created by Zoë Newman. Their sushi is the first and only 100% vegan sushi in Newcastle. Zoë Newman started her creative culinary art in 2020, and she is not only a chef, but also an anatomy illustrator which is the reason for her brand “Veganatomy”. Veganatomy just finished their pop up at The Salt Market Social in North Shields and their resident stall is reopening at By The River Brew Co on 3rdMarch with a brand new menu!

Thai House Café:

Thai House Café is located in Clayton Street, and it’s one of the best authentic Thai restaurants in Newcastle. Their pork-leg stew is a must-order; the pork is very well stewed, and bursting with flavour. The serving size of the pork leg stew is more than enough for one person, I suggest you make sure you're hungry before ordering this one. Also, the Thai milk tea is a good appetizer, it is brewed by tea leaves and has a combination of bitter & sweet tastes and scents; it’s a unique Thai drink! In the restaurant, they have enough seats for walk-in customers and the staff are very efficient. If you want to try Thai food, I would definitely recommend Thai house café, but be aware this is cash only.

Shijo:

Shijo is a Japanese street food café serving Japanese hot and cold dishes. They use the freshest local ingredients and do not use any MSG, artificial colours, or preservatives. If you have never been to Shijo before, I recommend its Chicken katsu curry donburi! The chicken katsu mix is serveded on steamed rice; it’s very tasty! If you want to try some smaller food, I recommend Takoyaki and the spring rolls. They are well fried and crispy! Shijo is located in a very good spot, just right outside of the Haymarket metro station, next to the Northumberland Street and opposite the INTO Newcastle university. If you are a student, or just shopping around the street, taste this Japanese street food! I bet you will be satisfied.
