Honourable Mentions throughout:
The Underdog: Alexandru 'The Red Carpathian' Mane vs Ewan 'The Shaolin' Faucitt:
This fight was a great start to the night and set the expectations high. Alexandru was the favourite going in; however, Ewan swaggered into the ring and used that confidence to out-work Alexandru. Although the Red Carpathian put out a great effort and really showed up for his fans, Ewan won via unanimous decision due to his forward pressure and his continuous backhands that landed.
Fight of the Night: Orla Fitzpatrick vs Lauren 'The Mosster' Moss:
This was my fight of the night. Our first female fight and incredible 50/50 battle throughout. Laura was the smaller fighter and continuously used an incredible combination of rear body hook followed by a lead overhand hook that landed throughout each of the three rounds. Orla utilised a great backhand throughout and snapped Laura's head back a few times, however, the fight was stopped in the third round as Orla could not continue after a few too many body shots landed from Laura.
Performance of the Night: Oliver Welsby vs Louis Allen:
From the outset Louis utilised great speed and forward pressure that seemed to startle Oliver and the fight seemed to be heading towards Louis. However, once Oliver had adjusted into the fight he began landing great jab-backhand combos, and the power difference was incredible. Louis could not deal with the power of Oliver's backhand straight and the fight was ended after Oliver startled Louis to two standing counts and then swarmed him with shots that Louis could not answer to, forcing the referee to step in and stop the fight.
Knockout of the Night: Jack 'The Giant' Sever vs Julius 'The Gladiator' Lunn:
Both guys seemed very eager to fight and they had a great competition that lasted less than a minute. Both Jack and Julius began exchanging shots in the centre of the ring, however, Julius missed a backhand and could not get his hand back to his guard quick enough to defend himself against Jack's giant looping backhand that connected onto Julius' temple and sent him unconscious on the canvas. A really great effort from Julius, but, a beautiful punch from Jack.
Weirdest Fight Ending: George 'The Roo' Alcock vs Max Anderson:
This fight only lasted a minute, and from the outset it seemed as though Max would take the decision win because his counter-shots and ring control were incredible. Unfortunately, within a brutal exchange early in the first round, Max dislocated his shoulder and continued for about thirty seconds unable to use his right hand. Max attempted to jab George and keep him at range until the fight was over, however, Max's corner threw the towel in after realising he could use his hand.
Summary:
This was a great night of fighting and one that I was so so proud to be a part of. I highly recommend getting involved as the night makes all the training so worth it.
