Ready to reset but can't get motivated to do it? Here are a few song suggestions to get you moving and finally start that spring clean.

'Bang A Drum' by Selena Gomez
Recall Another Cinderella Story (2008). Play this song and suddenly you’re Selena Gomez, flirty dance-cleaning your flat. Wipe those tables to the beat and vacuum the floors like you’re strutting down stage. You may not have a crush to cheekily throw a rag at like in the movie, but if you have roommates then you guys can still dance around the kitchen and make these mundane chores a little more fun. This upbeat tune will get you on your feet and ready to take on whatever task is in front of you.

'Sketch for Summer' by The Durutti Column
'Sketch for Summer' by The Durutti Column has been the main companion song of my springs for many years. A sketch of spring, a rough outline, and a glimpse of what is to come with bird sounds, Vini Reilly’s resonant guitar, and a production by Martin Hannett. Like many others songs by The Durutti Column, it offers a lot of affecting minor melodic and harmonic scales that are full of melancholy. It is a timeless instrumental song that, from the first listen, feels as if it has always been a part of your life, evoking an instant sense of nostalgia and the familiar feeling of warm breezes. Give it a listen if you haven't already!

‘She Cleans Up’ by Father John Misty
In his signature lyrical wit, Father John Misty describes a back-and-forth relationship in this track. It perfectly balances an overall rock ’n’ roll sound with playful irony. Misty’s effortlessly cool vocals are paired with raw energy, while steady percussions and bass give the song an unmistakable groove. The repetitive distorted guitar riff, looped almost hypnotically, drives the song – and hopefully you – forward, making it the perfect backing track to your spring clean. It holds the power to make mundane tasks a lot more enjoyable and even cinematic. Cue the montage of you frantically decluttering, trying on long-forgotten clothes and shredding your air-guitar in the mirror.

'Peace Song' by Fat Dog
Fat Dog's 'Peace Song' is the perfect soundtrack for my spring clean. The upbeat vibe energises me from the moment it kicks in, making even the dullest chores feel fun. There's something about the catchy melodies and infectious rhythm that makes me move faster, ticking tasks off my to-do list like it's nothing. It’s a burst of chaotic joy which perfectly matches the feeling of decluttering and freshening up my house. Whether I’m scrubbing surfaces in the kitchen or rearranging my room, 'Peace Song' is always my motivation.

'Mother Nature's Bitch' by Okay Kaya
Okay Kaya brings a funky, upbeat pop-disco groove to your spring clean with 'Mother Nature's Bitch'. Sonically, it's airy, minimalistic production blends soft synths, mellow guitar and Kaya's hypnotic vocals, creating a soothing yet invigorating ambience. The steady rhythm keeps you moving, while the lyrics, witty and self-reflective, add a playful edge. There's a lightness to this track, making decluttering feel like less of a chore and more like a reset. As the seasons shift, 'Mother Nature's Bitch' embodies renewal, helping you shake off the old and welcome in the freshness of spring. Put it on, open the windows, and let the cleaning - and healing - begin.

'Now is the Time' by Jade Bird
"Put your jeans on / Put your head on straight" Hexham-born Americana queen Jade Bird chides us in the opening lyrics of her stellar track 'Now is the Time'. It's a song with springtime bliss in every last note of its delightful melodies and every heart-warming lyric. "Doesn't matter 'bout the weather / Now's the time to go and get it" Bird blurts out at the end of the chorus, sounding almost too overwhelmed with joy and hope to get her words out, before a sumptuous arrangement of layered guitars and simmering congas take over. The result is a warm hug of a country rock song that will leave you gleefully skipping around the house with your Henry hoover.
