Forget Tyne Bridge, Monument or The Angel of The North, Flares has fast become the iconic landmark of Newcastle for students. It's non-stop, cheesy, feel-good tunes ensure a great night out. We spoke to Flares’ Wednesday night DJ, Craig Lilley, about Fresher’s Week and the tracks he thinks you should play at your own Freshers’ Party.
“Our students are amazing. Always game for a laugh and they bring such a great atmosphere with them, it’s infectious!”
Lilley went on to remind us of the Flares “traditions” that await first-year students and called on “second and third-year students” to help “educate” them.
What can new arrivals expect from a Flares night out? Craig says: “I always try to keep the atmosphere at a high level throughout the night so that whatever time they may arrive on their various crawls we make sure they have a great time. We try to acknowledge the societies we get in too, as well as embarrassing a few students along the way – in harmless fun, of course!”
DJ Craig has been spinning decks for 12 years now and has taken prime place at Flares for the last two years. He is the King of the party tune and here are his highlights for the perfect Fresher’s Week party.
“Our absolute anthem! It makes the place go mental! Shirts-off, jump around and sing along. MENTAL!”
