For day 5 of our uplifting news, Tilly Williams looks at the positive environmental impact that our lockdown is having on the scenery of the world.
For the first time in 30 years pollution levels have dropped. This has left citizens from Northern India, in the state on Punjab, able to see the peaks of the Himalayan’s for 125 miles.
India is on a 21 day lock down, which has reduced smog. This means an otherwise impossible view has been shown.
@/harbhajan_singh on Twitter posted “Never could imagine that’s possible.. clear indication of the impact pollution has done by us to Mother Earth..”
This reduced air pollution has been reported in the UK as well as European cities such as Paris, Milan and Madrid seeing a reduction in nitrogen dioxide levels. China’s carbon emissions also fell by around 25%.
There has also been a comeback in wildlife, with goats now taking over the streets of Wales and deer exploring some areas of Japan. There are also boar roaming Spain and a Puma has been caught in Chile.
So while we may be struggling to stay put for now, it’s impossible to deny the beautiful impact our absence has had on the environment. Hopefully this encourages people to take more environmental care to keep these positives in place after the pandemic.
That was nice
