The idea of ‘romanticising your life’ has become incredibly popular through social media, TikTok especially, in the last couple of years. Whilst not every TikTok ‘trend’ is amazing, I think that the idea of romanticisation of one’s life truly is a wholesome one. Whether you are single or not, there are many ways in which you can make your life more enjoyable, more fulfilling and more ‘yours’. This article suggests a handful of examples of what this ‘practice’ can look like for you this year.

YOLO
Use the nice candles, eat your favourite meals from the ‘fancy’ dishes, write with the nice pens you’ve been saving, drink your juice from a wine glass, get overdressed just to pop into Lidl. All of the things that you have and are dying to use but do not feel like their time has come just yet? Use them this year and enjoy them. They are just items at the end of the day…

Set The Ambience
Whether you are reading a book, walking in the park or writing your essays, set the mood and make the experience fun and memorable. Pretend like you are in a movie and be its own main character. For instance, if you are studying, which many of us are at all times: light a candle, turn on your fairy lights or a cosy lamp, put on your favourite playlist or choose one of the many pre-made study ones, wear your cosy socks and enjoy the process of whatever it may be that you are working on.

Take Pictures / Videos
Start taking more pictures and/or videos of yourself, your loved ones and all your ‘normal’ moments as those normally are where the magic hides. Print the pictures and put them on your walls, gift them to your loved ones with a little note on its back or stick them into your scrapbook and decorate the pages with all your special memories. Use your videos to try to make a vlog and put some of your favourite clips into a little film that you will get to keep forever, as a reminder of this stage of your life.

Solo Dates
Go and do things by yourself. This can be any activity you want and maybe something you have been wanting to do for ages. You can go for a meal on your own (I promise it is much less awkward than it sounds!), go to the cinema, have a picnic in the park, got to the beach or visit a museum or a gallery. The list is endless and it really can be anything. The only thing that matters is to have fun and escape the comfort zone.

One of the main reasons why this is so important is because you get to know yourself better. You grow through the knowledge of yourself, you learn to love yourself on a deeper level and romanticising your life teaches you to be your own bestie and these all are absolutely crucial to a happy life.
