For many women at university, football is a sport that they want to get involved in. For myself, having played football since I was 7 years old, I knew I wanted to participate in football in any capacity. No matter your ability, if you’re wanting to have fun playing football, intramural football could be for you.
The sessions, ran by coach Becks Dillon, offer a perfect balance of structure and competitiveness as well as an opportunity to have fun and get to know new people. For myself, intramural football has been exactly what I needed to make the most of my time at Newcastle.
Coach Becks Dillon works hard, dedicating her time to plan both engaging and exciting training sessions suitable for all abilities. A typical session would involve warm up drills, followed by specific skill-based drills such as shooting or passing. We would then implement these skills into small-sided games at the end of the session. It is through this training; we both maintain and strengthen our skills all while having fun.
Training sessions are every Friday, 6:00 PM– 8:00 PM, at Longbenton sports ground. Sessions are bookable via the NCL Sport app and are completely free. Unlike most sports societies and clubs, intramural women’s football requires no additional costs, making it a no brainer to take part in.
If you’re looking to have fun playing football, meet new people and become a part of the women’s football community, come down to Longbenton sports ground (NE12 8AD) on Friday evenings and give it a go. We would love to continue growing intramural sport, giving it the recognition it deserves, but we can’t do that without you.
