The Nottingham based band have been on the scene since 2021 and have given us two weird and wonderful EPs so far. But as of tomorrow, the opportunity to become acquainted with their first full album, Drive to Goldenhammer, is all yours, making this the perfect time to become a fan. Having tuned in to the listening party a few weeks ago, I feel well informed to say that it is a succinct and interesting piece of work that I look forward to spending more time with. It continues to work with similar themes they’ve written on before whilst driving the knife deeper: love and loss and the oddest of imagery which leaves you holding the pieces of it on your knees and wondering what to do with yourself. All this and a strong musical drive that makes a pair of headphones feel like a live show.
So where to start? I would recommend 'Birds' for its theatricality and build. If you’re looking for a song that grows as it moves then you’ll certainly like it. Equally, 'Antarctica' is a quiet and beautiful single with intriguing, discomforting imagery that works well with the unrequited resolution of the relationship it describes. Or if you’re looking for something seemingly more upbeat then try 'Gears' with its catchy refrain and strong instrumentation throughout.
I see success on the horizon for Divorce. They bring something new, original and interesting to the genres they inhabit through their fearless ability to combine things most people wouldn’t dream of putting together. Choose Divorce for a breath of fresh air.
