Sampha’s career has witnessed him collaborate with a diverse discography of artists. This includes the likes of Drake, Kanye West and Travis Scott. One of Sampha’s notable pieces has been with the talented rapper Loyle Carner on the song ‘Desoleil (Brilliant Corners)’ which was released in 2019. His ethereal vocals combined with the poignant lyrics “inner vibes down my spine, in the months, inner tuition intertwined and grew” create a transcendent and emotional listening experience.
Arguably, Sampha’s debut album Process (2017) has been the highlight of his music career as it introduced him as an artist in his own right. So much so, it won him the much sought after Mercury Prize. After winning, the talent confessed “It’s taken me quite a while to feel like I was emotionally stable enough to write my own record […] it feels like a weight off my shoulders”.
And yet, he has not stopped growing. Six years later, Sampha has amassed a monthly listening of 3.2 million on Spotify. Not only that, he has recently released his newest album Lahai, which was eagerly anticipated by his devoted fans. As the artist’s career continues to flourish, Lahai is promised to be yet another milestone in his musical legacy.
