I must say, I am a fan of the new trend. Making a comeback from the 80s and 90s are oversized denim jackets and baggy-fit denim jeans which have arguably been brought back by the supermodels of this era, the likes of Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid.
Quite frequently I’ll wear double denim as a stand-out outfit. While it’s simple, the matching tones and textures provide something different to a regular monochromatic outfit (that more than often doesn’t go together.)
Most fashionistas will mismatch different patterns, textures, and colours to provide something with an edge to it. However, double denim will never fail at almost achieving the same effect - while still being relatively simple to pull off.
I would suggest styling with other easy pieces underneath - like a plain tank top, either white or black. Footwear is easier to navigate - boots, trainers, or even sandals, anything will work. You can’t really go wrong here.
Keep it simple, leave the attraction on the denim. That way, nothing gets too confusing and you won’t look like an eyesore. Yes, combining textures and patterns is cool but there is an invisible line you might cross.
Although double denim is making an appearance this spring, I wouldn’t buy a new jacket or pair of jeans to participate in the trend. Just stick with a regular monochromatic outfit, like a matching sweatsuit or an actual tailoured suit (depending on the occasion.)
As much as I would love the trend to stick around for a while, summer will put it into hibernation. But, I do feel like this one is too cute, comfy, and easygoing to be gone for too long. Give it a while and it’ll resurface. As trends always do.
