Nothing says autumn like low-rise jeans, tiny scarves, purple fuzzy gloves and giant puffer coats right...?
It's been over twenty years since Gilmore Girls became an autumn staple on our screens, and it’s no secret as to why Lorelai and Rory’s outfits haven't left our minds. Their iconic fashion sense has never been more relevant: Y2K style is on the rise and there’s no stopping it now! So grab a pumpkin spiced latte, put on some atmospheric rain sounds and get cosy with me as we delve into why Gilmore Girls is our ultimate fashion guide for the upcoming colder months.
If Storm Ciaran has taught us anything, it's time to whip out the winter coats. Lorelai’s iconic blue puffer is a staple in her wardrobe; pair it with some fluffy gloves and a winter beanie and you’re sure to not only look like a Gilmore Girl, but also keep warm on your walks to campus or the local coffee shop. Is it time to swap out the North Face jacket for something a bit brighter? (Absolutely).
The Gilmore Girls are also regularly spotted wearing denim jackets, leather jackets, and of course the memorable pairing of a long coat with knee-high boots and a skinny scarf. If there’s one thing that both Urban Outfitters and Lorelai Gilmore can agree on, the tinier the scarf, the better.
Maybe you’ll also take a page out of their book and match all your tops to headbands, grab a statement necklace or two that I've not only seen on Asos but own, or get your own pair of Juicy tracksuit bottoms for lounging around the flat in style.
If you’re not only wanting to study like Rory Gilmore, but dress like her too, grab a turtleneck and jeans or pair your favourite jumper with a mini skirt, some tights and your favourite Doc Martens. When in doubt, always think of Rory’s gigantic cable knit jumper in the pilot episode.
