After 8 seasons of hosting The Late Late Show on CBS, James Corden’s final episode aired on the 27th of April 2023. The show aired weekly at 10pm, and between 2021-23, was getting approximately just under 1 million viewers per week. The final show scored 1.43 million viewers, ending the show in an amazing way. The question is, why did James Corden leave now?

Over his 8 years hosting the show, James Corden has brought many hilarious and heartfelt Carpool Karaoke segments to the show, which have featured many famous celebrities, such as Adele, Ariana Grande, and Justin Bieber. As well as the news segment, games with star guests, mini-musicals, and the house band ‘Melissa’ led by Reggie Watts, The Late Late Show has provided many laughs and many great moments.

There is speculation over the real reason that James Corden left the show, and it has been revealed that James Corden’s final episode as host was also the last ever of The Late Late Show, as CBS announced that they would be bringing back the comedy show Midnight to replace it. Between James Corden’s annual salary of $5 million and the cost to run the show each year ranging from $60-65 million, the show ultimately became too expensive for CBS to run. The show approximately made $45 million per year, so the losses became too high for it to be an acceptable cost for the network.

The Final Late Late Show featured special guests Harry Styles and Will Ferrell, as well as a comedy sketch with previous hosts David Letterman, Jimmy Kennel, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Myers, and Stephen Colbert. James Corden also gave a heartfelt message to his audience, thanking them for their support, and thanking his team for all their hard work over the years working with them, and specially mentioned head writers Ian Karmel and Lauren Greenberg, and lead of his house band Reggie Watts. Adele was his last guest on The Final Carpool Karaoke, although it aired before the final show. The show ended with a comical and reminiscent song sung by James Corden himself, which summed up the highlights over the years and ended with a teary goodbye.
