The seventh film in the Jurassic franchise, and the fourth film of the Jurassic World series, Rebirth takes place five years after the events of Jurassic World: Dominion.
The end of the most recent film saw humans and dinosaurs left to coexist alongside each other in the dawn of their new world. You’d think the franchise would have nowhere left to go having already released six successful films, but in this universe’s new age of human-dinosaur coexistence, comes new scientific breakthroughs - namely that there are dinosaurs whose DNA will provide the key to saving innumerable lives. Problem - they’re the three largest dinosaurs around.
Welcome, once again, to Jurassic World.
Luckily, there are some conveniently located together, isolated on a remote island (sound familiar?) that served as the research facility for the original Jurassic Park. Enter new dinos for us to delight in. ‘But how can they be ‘new’ if they’re technically old?’ I hear you ask. Answer: they’re the ones that were too dangerous for the original park.
Tasked with this mission of DNA extraction are a new duo, paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey) and covert operations expert Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson) - another return to Jurassic standard which I am excited to see develop.
We’ve seen the problems caused by the isolation of these creatures, illustrated through the terrifying Indominus Rex of the first Jurassic World film. In this new age where people are now used to dinosaurs, and vice versa, how will the intrepid pair fare against animals who have never had that experience? An exciting return to the status quo of the original Jurassic Park.
Oh, and there’s raptors.
Welcome, once again, to Jurassic World. In cinemas this July.
