Newcastle being one of only four locations for the Real Estate tour, we felt extremely lucky to be there. After a crisp pint at Luther’s spoons we headed down to Venue and managed to secure the barrier. We had some time to kill before the support act, Far Caspian, so we created a poster which read “We travelled Far 4 Far Caspian”, which you could argue was only for the pun (it wasn’t so true as I had travelled from Jesmond).

Going into the gig, I was unsure on what to expect as I had only listened to a few snippets of Far Caspian, and even less from Real Estate. However, future me was in for a real treat. Far Caspian truly shone as a support, as their lo-fi sounds captured the audience’s attention, with front man Joel Johnston’s calming vocals creating a relaxed aura throughout.

Out of the six songs, I especially warmed to ‘Answer’, with its intriguing layers and the build-up throughout the song. I now have a newfound love for Far Caspian, and their songs have been on repeat since my discovery. To top off the truly pleasant experience, after their set ended Johnston personally delivered two setlists to my incredibly enthusiastic friends setting the tone perfectly for the rest of the evening.

After a short wait (and much excitement from the audience) we were met with the more upbeat members of Real Estate. Real Estate are a small band from New Jersey, USA who are currently touring their new album, 'Daniel'. They opened their set with their new album’s opener ‘Somebody New’ which is a relaxed indie song with an acoustic guitar creating a mellow vibe.

As we bobbed our heads through the set, we did not receive much interaction from the band. However, this allowed us to fully immerse ourselves into their distinctive sounds. After a long but relaxing set of eighteen songs the band left the stage, where I pondered over their encore. Soon enough they came back with a bang, bringing a fantastic cover of ‘Daniel’ by Elton John, which completely topped off my night. This is where I learnt what their album was named after.

Overall, the evening perfectly relaxing but invigorating, the two bands worked perfectly together where we saw a breadth of both discographies.
