A daughter on the verge of receiving a life-changing gift, a mother who’s had slightly too much-mulled wine, and childhood friends connected by five New Years make up the two plays offered by Live Theatre this festive season.

'Wishes On The Wind' opens with the short play 'Secret Santa.' It's a fantastic play brilliantly written by Alison Scurfield, and wonderfully directed by Rachel Glover the interactions between Christie (Brogan Gilbert) and Margaret (Jakie Lye) are engaging and the bond between the two is both realistic and relatable.

After connecting with the characters and investing in their relationship, I was disappointed that we couldn't follow them on their journey! Perhaps next year, 'Secret Santa' could be Live's flagship Festive show?

A few moments after leaving Christie and Margaret, we join social media influencer Sam (Caitlyn Barber) and musician Charlie (Luke Hammond), childhood friends reunited by a chance Christmas encounter...

Is it the best play you will ever see? Does it go beyond the limits of theatre? Will it change your life? Probably not. But it is exactly what a festive play should be: charming, light-hearted, and as the director, Graeme Thompson, comments, ‘an opportunity to escape into every day and enjoy the spectacle of the ordinary.'

The characters feel like someone you know or someone you’d pass on the street; they might even be you.

‘We would do this thing on New Year's Day. Whisper a wish into the wind and it’ll blow it all around the world so the universe can help it come true.’

Benjamin Storey's heartwarming script and delightful music combine with the fantastic talent of Caitlyn Barber and Luke Hammond to create a play that embodies the true meaning of Christmas.
