The ultimate (virtual) holiday destination...

You can argue with me, but Wii Sports Resort is honestly one of the best games ever made. It might just be nostalgia talking, but every aspect of this game is so charming and nothing could ever come close! If I could live anywhere, it would on my own private island off the coast of Wuhu Island. The bright colours, endless sunshine and beautiful landscape of the game is so iconic and lives on in the memories of many 2000s children.

If I could live anywhere, it would be on my own private island off the coast of Wuhu Island...

I think I received Wii Sports Resort in 2010 for a Christmas present, and since I have been obsessed. I have replayed my favourite sports an infinite amount of times. Personally, table tennis is my all-time favourite choice… I have revelled in the challenge of reaching the max level of 2500 many times! The satisfaction of hitting a perfect top spin shot or even smashing the ball into the other Mii’s face, only adds to the charm and fun of the game. Some other of my favourite sports include the Island Flyover, Swordplay and the classic bowling. Compared to the original Wii Sports roster of games, Resort provides a fresh update to Golf and Bowling, while exploring different island themed sports to create such a unique gaming experience which is quite Franklin unmatched.

Allows for endless replayability...

For such a simple concept, Nintendo have packed this game with a variety of sports and levels to choose from allows for endless replayability. Playing sports against different NPCs, whether your own Mii creations or the iconic line up of the Wii Sports games, makes you feel like you are a local and completely immersed in Wuhu Island life. The level of gameplay is perfect for all ages, as a child I never did anything too challenging, but the game was great fun and very engaging. Since growing up with the game you begin to realise the complexity of the mechanics, and all the clever ways Nintendo has managed to market the game to a broad demographic.

The game certainly progressively gets harder the more you play...

I remember the first time I beat Lucia, the champion of Table Tennis, I was ecstatic! The game certainly progressively gets harder the more you play, and as I’ve got older I have certainly enjoyed the challenge. The game is always engaging and there is always something to do, whether you max out your level in every sport, attempt to gain every achievement or just want to play with friends for fun – it just never gets boring.

Wii Sports Resort, among other amazing Nintendo games... should remain in their classic form...

The release of Switch Sports Resort on the Nintendo Switch in 2022, proved very unpopular among Wii Sports fans. Potentially being a sequel to the 2009 classic, it did not live up to the charisma, liveliness and excitement of the original. I think Wii Sports Resort, among other amazing Nintendo games like Wii Sports or Wii Fit should remain in their classic form. If they were to be remade, I don’t believe it would ever give the same feeling to players. Wii Sports Resort will always be one of the most nostalgic games for me, I think I keep going back to play to reconnect with my childhood self!
