The 2025 revival of Miss Saigon will feature the music from the original soundtrack by Schönberg-Michel and Boubil but will be presented by Michael Harrison and Cameron Mackintosh as a 'rebirth'. The tour will commence on October 25th, 2025 at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle, before traveling to various theatres across the UK.
Set in 1975 in Saigon, Vietnam, towards the end of the Vietnam War, Miss Saigon is a complicated yet beautiful love story between an American G.I. named Chris and a Vietnamese bargirl, Kim. The musical shows the end of the war when the Americans retreated from Vietnam, some unknowingly leaving behind their half-American and half-Vietnamese children, the 'Ameraisans,' also known as Bui-Doi (meaning 'the dust of life').
The musical includes many well-known songs such as 'The Movie in My Mind', 'I Still Believe', 'Last Night of the World' and 'The American Dream', all written and composed by Claude Schönberg-Michel and Alain Boubil, who are famous for writing and composing the music for Les Miserables (often described as the best musical of all-time).
Miss Saigon was a great success, initially premiering in 1989, and as of 2022 has remained "Broadway's fourteenth longest-running show." Famous versions of the musical include the original 1989 West End and 1991 Broadway shows, featuring Lea Salonga as Kim, and the 2014 and 2017 revival tour featuring Eva Noblezada as Kim and Alistair Brammer as Chris.
Although the casting details for the 2025 revival tour have not yet been released, official sign-ups for early-bird tickets are available through the Miss Saigon website. Tickets will be on general-release sale for the Newcastle shows on the 10th of December, and on the 28th of November for the rest of the UK. Make a note in your diaries, as you won't want to miss this musical phenomenon!
