My foody hear me outs

There are certain foods that are universally agreed to being...well, disgusting, and people who enjoy them must have something seriously wrong with them. It's me, I have something seriously wrong with me, because who in their right mind enjoys these flavours?! Let me preface this by saying - I think everyone who does not agree on this with me is weird, and that I am, on all accounts, right and should not be questioned.

The biggest controversial take of mine is, for some incomprehensible reason, liking mint chocolate ice-cream. Really, with all the absolutely insulting flavours that exist out there you will be judging me on something so absolutely delicious? Every time I share loving this combination there are only two answers I get - agreement, or some variation of the phrase "why? it tastes like toothpaste!", to which I always have to hold back from saying "have you never brushed your teeth before?". In general, I am a fan of all things minty and all kinds of mint chocolates, and this very vocal love has landed me many, many packs of After Eight thin mints every year for my birthday which are, for your information, the best chocolates out there.

Staying among sweet flavours - orange candy. Maybe it's the people I meet, but everyone I know does not like orange flavoured candy, which to my delight means that they are all left for me! I don't have a reason for this one, it's the best because it just is. So, while everyone is fighting over the overrated ones - ahem, strawberry - I stay a true winner. Similar to my beloved misunderstood mint, orange just kills it everywhere. Orange candy? Delicious. Orange chocolate? Absolutely life-changing. Orange ice-cream? I've dreamed of it every summer ever since I tasted it a few years ago in Croatia and then never ever seen it again.

However, I can be self-critical and admit some things I enjoy are not for everyone. I keep a dirty shameful secret, that being the fact that I never really grew out of liking bubble-gum flavour and I do indulge in bubble-gum ice-cream when the opportunity presents itself. Similarly, I just keep quiet when the talk shifts to cakes with fondant, because who likes fondant? Me, I love it. I love the feeling of chewing on something that could as well be Play-Doh and every day I mourn the day bakers collectively decided to prefer buttercream. Rest in peace fondant, you will be missed...
