The Northern Stage venue at our own Newcastle University will soon host the 8th annual Newcastle Poetry Festival from May 9th-11th!

Offering a range of activities from interactive panels to workshops and live readings, the event hopes to bring together its local community. In particular young people and student are encouraged to attend.

By organising a live event, the team hopes to incite comradery between creatives of all ages and spark new friendships and conversations.

This year’s theme is ‘In and Out of Place’, with an emphasis on regional areas and sense of belonging.

A number of nationally famous poets are also set to participate. Namely, the famous Dame Carol Ann Duffy - Author of The World’s Wife and other such collections - will perform a live poetry reading.

The going student price to attend an individual activity at the festival is £6, and £8 for non-students. A full day ticket looks to retail for around £18, and an entire festival pass for the price of £60

You can also purchase digital tickets for £3 per event and £20 for the festival if you cannot attend in-person.

Recordings from last year’s 2023 event on the theme ‘Community’ are available online as a sneak peak of the talks that we can look forward to this May.

The event is being funded by Newcastle City Council’s Arts and Economic development teams and ran by North-Eastern poetry enthusiasts like Theresa Muñoz and James Annesley from our own Newcastle University.

Northern Stage aims to be an accessible venue, and thus is step-free, wheelchair accessible, offers buggy parking, companion tickets, hearing enhancement and more. Further details can be found on their website.
