Called 'Live Jam @ Lockdown', the group provides an opportunity for musicians to perform a 20 minute gig slot to the many people across the platform.
The artists will be able to add a 'digital tip-hat' to their performance via a link, should any of their fans wish to. However Gareth Beddard, one of the group's founders says "the main aim is to continue to share the love of live music!!!"
The musicians hope to give something back to the people who have supported them across the venues they play. With bars and restaurants closing during the Coronavirus crisis, they aim to bring joy to many during the current lockdown period. The platform also gives hard-working musicians across the North East the chance to still perform to a large audience.
The Facebook group currently has 12,500 members, and the first live stream begins this Friday at 6pm. With 9 performers scheduled, the gig will end at 10:30pm. There are further live streams this Saturday and Sunday, each with a different set of 9 artists.
