On 2 March 2021, Hidden Path Entertainment tweeted on their account @HiddenPathEnt about a new project:

'Hidden Path is hiring! We are in development on a AAA, third-person, open-world fantasy RPG that will be taking place inside the Dungeons & Dragons franchise.'

They are seeking a graphics programmer, lead graphics programmer, senior technical artist, and writer, details of which can be found on their site.

Dungeons & Dragons video games have already proven to be fairly popular with the community, with games such as Baldur’s Gate 3 being incredibly popular already, despite still being in early access.

Although some players of the game undoubtedly prefer the tabletop experience, Hidden Path's project is likely to be popular. Between the popularity of open-world online RPGs and the iconic races, classes and alignments beloved by D&D players, the game certainly has appeal. And while D&D tropes are already beginning to feel played-out with the advent of newer, more flexible RPGs, the idea has its niche. Will it work, or will players desire something more original? We'll see how the dice land on that one.Published in 1974 by Gary Gygax and Dave Anderson, Dungeons & Dragons is one of the most iconic tabletop role-playing games. It's often referenced in shows such as Community and The Big Bang Theory as a classic staple game for friends to play together. More recently, it's inspired spin-off media such as 'The Adventure Zone' and 'Critical Role' podcasts, leading to a resurgence in popularity. The game has even gained infamy through Christian tract 'Dark Dungeons' by fundamentalist cartoonist Jack Chick. (This was later adapted into a parody film of the same name.). If you want to get involved with Dungeons & Dragons, Newcastle University’s Tabletop society might be the place for you.
