Paper books

Nothing beats a paper book! Nothing quite compares to the look, feel and smell of them – with a paper copy of a book you get a full sensory experience. The only thing better than a paper book is a hardback book – it's just a little bit sexy! It's especially satisfying to not just see but feel your progress by gripping the chunk that you've read. Plus, there is nothing better than having a full bookshelf with every good book you've ever read and arranged however is most aesthetically pleasing to you.

It's lovely to carry on old traditions – handing down your favourite books to the next generation and reading the copies that your parents had when they were young.

People complain that you run out of space and become a hoarder...I see no problem here! Is there anything nicer to surround yourself with than stories and the vibrant colours and pictures from the covers? It's also lovely to carry on old traditions – handing down your favourite books to the next generation and reading the copies that your parents had when they were young. Whilst technology is ever-evolving, nothing will ever replace a good old paper book.

Ebooks

Ebooks are my favourite way to read. Of course, they do not have the feel and weight of a physical book in my hand, but they have something else that wins me over – practicality. I can keep dozens of titles with me on my e-reader in a small and portable form that I can easily slip into almost any bag. It is especially great when a book I’m reading is five hundred pages long and pretty heavy to carry around in my bag (The Lord of the Rings, anyone?).

Reading is much more pleasant when I don’t have to fight against the choices of some publisher committing typographic crimes.

It is also great when travelling or moving houses which at my point in life I do more often than I would like (moving, not travelling - I wish I could travel more and read in some amazing places). However, there is another thing that I love about ebooks – I can change the font, letter size, spacing…. Seems silly, right? But my tired dyslectic eyes are thankful. Reading is much more pleasant when I don’t have to fight against the choices of some publisher committing typographic crimes. Also, ebooks are often cheaper than physical books – that’s always a win for someone with a small budget, like me.
